Cheryl
joined us at Ink Alternative in June of 2001.
She's
been tattooing since the year 2000.
She
became interested in tattooing after a few friends suggested
that she sell some of her designs to local studios.
One
of her college professors lectured her on how she should
have been an art major rather than a film major. It
didn't take her long to realize that tattooing could
be a good outlet for her art.
Cheryl's
favorite things to do are pieces that she feels have
personality and style. Her
subjects are a bit 'kooky' with a bubblegum flare. She
likes to do large scale tattoos and feels more limited
by smaller pieces. She likes bright color and new skool
subjects but enjoys doing black and grey work just as
much. Cheryl also does cover-ups and likes the satisfaction
of bringing an older piece back to life or covering
it with something with more of an impact... making it
crisper, more colorful, larger and custom.
Cheryl's
least favorite thing to do is the same flash piece on
the wall; not
only pieces that she's done dozens of times, but things
she's seen done millions of times. She finds tribal/blackwork
to be monotonous and it doesn't interest her in the
least... nor do Asian characters on persons who are
not of Asian decent.
Her
influences as far as artwork (which
she considers to span many mediums) are mainly based
on the emotions they spark in people and respect for
their talent and technique... artists like H.R.Giger,
M.C.Escher, Dave McKean, Andy Warhol, Todd McFarlane
and Tom Savini.
Cheryl
is most influenced/inspired by hardworking determined
tattoo artists such
as Guy Aitchison, Will Lollie, James Kern, Bugs, Thomas
Sinnamond, Gunnar, Bob Tyrell, Monte, St.Marq... and
many more artists who's work is clean, smooth, fun and
full of their own personality.
Cheryl's
goal in the industry is to promote diversity, promote
open-mindedness,
to inspire people to really challenge their ideas and
bring out bigger, better, more creative ideas than they
were originally aware of. Her goal is to keep ignorance
and attitude out of the art of tattooing. One day she'd
like to claim an internationally known name for herself
through positive promotion. She'd like to be able to
travel as a guest artist around the world and at all
of it's conventions. She feels that to be known among
the top named female tattoo artists in the industry
is an accomplishment to strive towards as well. Her
biggest goal is just to keep up the good work and be
a positive influence in the industry. |
